Broadacre Burning Permits

Published 28th March 2024

Broadacre burning season is now open in the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council region. To obtain a broadacre burning permit you will be required to complete a Broadacre burning permit application which needs to be submitted by emailing compliance@cgvc.sa.gov.au

Once a permit has been issued, before igniting the fire on the day of the burn, permit holders are required to lodge their notification to burn by visiting https://cgvc.sa.fires.elementorg.com/public-pages/burnoff-submission/ and entering the required details.

Permit holders need to ensure they are familiar with, and can adhere to the prescribed and local conditions (as detailed in the permit application) to be eligible to receive a permit for broadacre burning. Failing to comply with permit conditions may result in a $473 expiation (fine), the permit being revoked, or even prosecution.  Routine permit checks are conducted through the season by Council’s Compliance Officer to ensure permit conditions are adhered to.

To ensure you have a burning permit prior to your intended burn date, please allow up to 3 business days for Council to receive, assess, and issue a Schedule 9 Permit.

Council support a best practice approach to broadacre burning in line with the 2023 SACFS Smoke Management Policy (click here), and the 2023 PIRSA Broadacre burn-of Smoke Management Guideline (click here).

A map view of all planned burns on the day is viewable to the general public at this address: https://cgvc.sa.fires.elementorg.com/public-pages/burnoff-view/
