Managing Stormwater for a Safer Community
Stormwater management has been at the forefront of Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council’s elected members discussions recently and has culminated in a motion to send the Clare Stormwater Management and Clare Stormwater Implementation plans out for public consultation.
“Over the years the Clare township has been subject to major flooding incidents and although many initiatives have been put in place to reduce the threat of inundation, establishing a more permanent solution is important,” Mayor Wayne Thomas said.
A works implementation plan has been drawn up and grant funding will be sought to assist in budget planning. Community consultation will first be the first step towards adopting the plan.
Council has already been working on stormwater projects and current completed works include stormwater upgrades in Henry and William Streets, Clare, and clearing of reeds and exotic species in the Hut River from the Valleys Lifestyle Centre to Pioneer Avenue.
Budgeted works for this financial year include drainage upgrade in Gleeson Street and drainage installation on Neagles Rock Road.
Future high priority works are a detention dam Gleeson Street/Bennys Hill Road, a flood control dam and a drainage system in Daly Street.
Future works for consideration include a detention dam at Hanlins Rise and drainage in Lennon Street.
Advice concerning public consultation will be made available in due course.
