Upgrades to Riverton’s historic Community Hall has begun in late June.

Riverton Community Hall upgrade paused for structural assessment

Construction works at the Riverton Community Hall have been temporarily paused to allow for the completion of structural engineering assessments on the roof and platform lift.

Work began on 29 June after Council awarded the refurbishment contract to Mykra Pty Ltd. Early works included perimeter fencing and demolition of the kitchen, bar area and toilets.

“Development Assessment approval was staged. Consent has been issued for ground-level works, with a second stage now pending the outcomes of a structural engineering assessment of the roof and a performance solution for the platform lift,” Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Richard Dodson said.

“The structural engineer has already commenced the roof assessment and an initial briefing has been provided to Council’s Elected Body ahead with some of the preliminary findings.”

A final report is expected towards late July.

No further site works will be observed until the Council has reviewed the full findings and determined the next steps in the construction program.

Community access to the ATM on the building's northern wall will remain open throughout.

The $1.477 million project is being funded through Council’s 2026-2027 Annual Business Plan and Budget together with a $770,000 grant from the South Australian Government’s Enabling Infrastructure Program.

Council will provide further updates once the structural report is complete.
