Using the right bin helps protect our environment

🚮 Using the Right Bin Helps Protect Our Environment 🌱♻️

Since the FOGO system commenced in February 2023, Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council has seen encouraging changes in how waste is managed across our townships.

When recyclable materials, food scraps and green waste are placed in the correct bins, they can be reused, composted or recycled, rather than ending up in landfill. This helps reduce environmental impacts, supports more sustainable waste management, and makes better use of the resources we all share.

The more recyclable and organic material diverted from the 140L general waste bin, the less waste goes to landfill, and many residents also find their general waste bin has more room between collections.

💡 What you can do to help:
✔️ Place food scraps and garden organics in your FOGO/green bin (using the kitchen caddy makes it easy)
✔️ Recycle wherever possible
✔️ Take eligible glass containers to bottle depots
✔️ Set aside items that can’t go in kerbside bins and dispose of them at appropriate facilities

♻️ Extra waste?
Residents continue to have free access to the Riverton and Clare Transfer Stations for excess waste that can’t be managed through the fortnightly general waste collection.

Council thanks the community for embracing the FOGO system and taking an active role in reducing waste and protecting our environment for future generations.
